Subject: RE: paybill passed in Legislatur

All:

As a member of the negotiating team, I am writing to say that without Barbara's intelligence, tenacity and eloquence, this contract--the first in years that concluded within a single year--would have been improbable, if not impossible. We were constrained by many forces beyond our control, but managed to make some significant innovations that help many sectors of our membership, including part-timers. The complexity of our agreement is barely understood my most of us; compared to other public employees unions ours is a daunting task because we are negotiating with the university administration, but also with the city and the state. And, finally, with two houses of the legislature. She was on top of all of these and managed to bring the contract home.
