(SPECIAL PSC ELECTION ISSUE NO. 5)

THE RICHARD BORIS STORY:
AN UNDISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR'S QUEST
FOR THE PRESIDENCY OF THE PSC,
THE UNION OF THE DISTINGUISHED FACULTY

During the last two months, The Patriot has raised some specific issues of concern affecting the welfare of the PSC members and its serious reservations as to how the CCUC Caucus candidate Richard Boris will be able to deal with them. But as of now, Prof. Boris has not responded to one single issue we and others have raised. He has, instead, chosen to attack the honesty, integrity, commitment and motives of the Editor of the Patriot. We challenge him, once again, to respond and explain the following:

CONFLICT OF INTEREST: Why did Boris select Carlos Hargraves, Assistant to the Hostos College President as one of the candidates on his slate when he knew too well that it would pose a conflict of interest issue? Why didn't he select one of the 1,600 well qualified and hard working HEO's who would not pose such a problem? What confidence the membership should have in Boris's ability to negotiate a contract when we know that the management confidant is privy to union strategies for negotiations?

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Why doesn't Boris tell us what one single significant contribution he has made during his five year vice presidency that has benefited the PSC members.

LIFE OF LUXURY AND ALMOST NO SHOW JOB: Does he deny that he has led a life of luxury and comfort for the last five years in which he bought expensive dinners for himself and his friends on the PSC credit card; often visited the romantic Paris during the semester when all other members of the faculty were required to be in the classrooms; that he has a rented car and an EZ pass, all paid for from your dues; and that he drives to the City and pays over $30.00 a day from members' dues for parking when he could easily hop on the train from Brooklyn, his during -the- week resident, for a buck and half?

DONATIONS: Has he denied the fact that he has not provided a report to the CUUC membership stating how much money: was collected at the 1997 reception for Polishook and how those donations were spent?

1999 CHAPTER ELECTIONS: Isn't it a fact that his laziness and neglect of duty to the Caucus contributed to CUUC's loss of twelve campuses, including his own York campus, to the New Caucus sending shock waves in the PSC leadership?

CALL FOR RESIGNATION: Isn't it a fact that a sizable number of credible individuals approached Dr. Irwin Polishook to seek Boris's resignation because Boris is incompetent, lazy and often does not come to work?

AN UNDISTINGUISHED RECORD: Isn't it a fact that as an academician who wants to be the leader of the union of the distinguished faculty of CUNY Boris has the most undistinguished record of accomplishments? How can he explain the absence of even a single article or a book in his twenty-eight years in CUNY?

PROMOTION DENIED: Is it not true that he remained Assistant Professor for a quarter of a century until in 1995 he was promoted to Associate Professorship only with Dr. Irwin Polishook's intervention?

WHEN DID BORIS JOIN THE UNION?: Isn't it a fact that even though Boris joined the York faculty in 1972 but refused to join the union until 1992? Why? Is it because he did not believer that college professors should be unionized.

THE CREDIT UNION: What are the PSC's problems with the Credit Union? Please explain, Mr. Boris.

PROMISE OF VICE CHANCELLORSHIP: Boris has boasted that if he loses this election he has been assured Vice Chancellorship. Boris must be dreaming! We know for fact that Chancellor believes in scholarship, standards and most of all, hard work, the qualities Boris sorely lacks.

SANDI COOPER: Has Boris forgotten that he and Dr. Polishook were the once who, behind the scene, encouraged the Editor of the Patriot to criticize Sandi Cooper, former Chair of the Senate, in an effort to discredit her for they perceived Sandi as Boris's potential rival for the PSC Presidency in the year 2000?

CUNYTALK: Has Boris's memory failed to recall that it was he and Dr. Polishook who supported the Editor of the Patriot in his efforts to shut down the CUNYTALK for they saw that the part-timers, the gripers, the perennial complainers, and so called "radicals" in the Senate were using the CUNYTALK to attack the PSC and its leadership?

IS IT NOT TIME THAT THE CITY, STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES BEGIN TO INVESTIGATE THE GOINGS ON AT THE PSC (luxurious lives of the officers, the welfare Fund, the junkets to the conferences, use of automobiles, staff salaries, pension funds, no-show job of officers, summer pays, favoritism and misuse of released time etc.)?

Whether you are a Chancellor, a college president, an ordinary PSC member or a member of the PSC staff MAKE NO MISTAKE THAT IF YOU DISAGREE WITH BORIS, YOU WILL BE LABELED a "STALKER," a "BLACKMAILER," a "SEXUAL HARRASER," a "MAN/WOMAN HATER," and even a "RACIST." Avoid the label. Don't cross Boris.

Make a few copies for your colleagues.
