AN OPEN LETTER TO PROF. MALONEY
Withdraw With Grace Before It Is Too LATE

Reliable sources have informed the Patriot that you are seriously considering withdrawing from the election to fill the Chapter Chair position created by the untimely death of Dr. David Keller. Talk about fiscal restraint! Talk about concern for the interests of the faculty! During these hard times, it does not make sense to waste the union members' dues on an election for a position that will last a month before the next election is to be held. And if the results of the election were to be contested (as has been the habit of your backers in the past), you might not even hold the position for a single day!

It was very obvious on the day of nominations, that you left early to go home and showed absolutely no interest in running. Any interest at all surely would have had you nominated while you were present and you would have gotten someone to nominate and second your candidacy with some credibility on campus. Unfortunately, everyone knows that you are a stand-in for the "honorable," Professor, Doctor Geraldine Chapey, who lost miserably in the last election against the late David Keller. Her rapid descent from the position of Secretary at the Central PSC and subsequent non-representation on the KCC PSC Executive Committee have both added to the perception that credibility has been lost at both the Central PSC and at KCC. Her second of your candidacy evokes that old warning, "for it shall surely be as en albatross about thy neck. "

Your graceful withdrawal will be greatly appreciated by the faculty and the Union. They understand your current dilemma and the awkward position in which you have been placed. But they also know that if you do not withdraw, you will be wasting the time and money of the union and its members which could be used for much more important matters.

In January, petitions will be available for a new election for the entire slate for a three year term. If you are really interested in running, instead of being forced into it, that is the time to do it. Disassociate yourself from the "honorable," Professor, Doctor Geraldine Chapey and run on your own merits. Who knows, you may have a good chance of winning. But if you run now and lose, the union members will never forgive you for wasting thousands of their union dollars in such an irresponsible manner.

Therefore, your withdrawal will be greatly appreciated.
