Vol. 5, No. 1 March 22, 1995 A Messenger of Sound Advice On April 3rd, just a week from today, KCC-PSC union members will be presented with a single slate ballot headed by you. Those inquiring faculty members know approximately who will be on the slate, but the faculty-at-large, particularly the new faculty have a right to know precisely who is running and for what positions, even though there is only one slate. The insiders know how you were chosen to head the slate. The college community is quite well aware of the foundation built by The PATRIOT keeping undeserving candidates from being nominated and elected. We are very happy that, for the first time in KCC history, we will have an election without the acrimony, accusations and slanderous remarks that were too often the norm. But, be reasonable, we also want to know some key things: What is your platform? This is particularly important because we are facing hard times, and the faculty-at-large has a right to know, at least in a general way, what kind of leadership you hope to provide. Aside from that, it would just be wise, humble, gentle and decent to introduce yourself, and your slate, to the College community even though you will be the chair of the chapter executive board whether we agree with you or not. SUPPORT THE CHAPTER - VOTE FOR SUSAN O'MALLEY This leads me to a second point about the upcoming ballot. As we all know, there is always room for a write-in candidate's name to be placed on each ballot. Therefore, there are several options for voters; 1) Vote for the entire slate Some faculty, who have followed The PATRIOT over the years, have said that they would consider writing in the name of the editor of The PATRIOT for the chair's position or not vote for that slot at all. These people feel that the PATRIOT has given sound advice in the past. These people feel that The PATRIOT has shown more concern for faculty rights than some union candidates that have only been concerned with power. These people feel that the truthfulness of The PATRIOT has been one of the only things on which faculty had to depend in recent years. But if these people feel that The PATRIOT has given sound advice in the past then they should respect it now. The PATRIOTS "sound advice" is to vote for Susan O'Malley for chapter chair and her entire slate. She is going to be elected anyway. You may as well give her the resounding victory and hope that she will work on your behalf P.S.; Sorry, Prof. SherKer .your request to cease publication of the Patriot Returns cannot be honored at this time. The critical issues facing the entire College community are too important to be ignored. By popular demand, then, The Patriot Returns has resumed its mission to deliver sound and informed judgment for the betterment of Kingsborough. Sharad
